Good design of new buildings & skillful renovation of old ones improves Spen Valley. It also sets an example and helps encourage more people to do the same. Spen Valley Civic Society scrutinizes planning applications and objects to badly designed developments, or ones using poor quality materials. We've urged the Council to take enforcement action where buildings are left in a derelict or dangerous state, eg. the former Siddalls Printers works at Horncastle Street Cleckheaton.
Spen Valley Civic Society supported an application to restore the Grade 2 Listed Duxbury Hall at Roberttown, the price of which was new houses built in its former garden. Other Listed building restorations which have been applauded include Mock Hall Farm on the A62 and the former Albion Pub on Knowler Hill Liversedge.
